The Ohio Export Internship Program at Davenport Aviation
Here at Davenport Aviation, we are committed to helping our local community, and that includes providing internships to Ohio State University students to help them get started in their careers. We are proud to offer this exciting program to local college students and small to medium sized businesses. Here's how this innovative program works:
The Ohio Export Internship Program
The Ohio Export Internship Program (OEIP) offers Ohio college students the chance to gain valuable work experience in the exports industry. This allows them to utilize the knowledge gained in the classroom in a practical context. Through an export internship, students will be able to obtain hands-on experience with the challenges that businesses in the industry currently face, both domestically and internationally.
Participation in the program requires students to complete a one-semester course at their university. They'll also complete a 12-week internship at one of more than 100 local companies that accept student interns under the program. Businesses benefit from this arrangement as well by having the opportunity to train the next generation of export professionals and helping to close the skills gap that is becoming more and more commonplace these days, particularly in specialized industries.
The Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business and the Ohio Development Services Agency teamed up in 2012 to start the OEIP with the goal of helping small and medium sized businesses in Ohio to thrive and flourish in the exports industry, thus creating jobs and boosting the local economy. So far, 144 students have participated in the program, 25 of whom received permanent job offers as a result of their participation.
Interning at Davenport Aviation
Davenport Aviation is a leading supplier of aircraft parts and other aviation equipment. We ship these products to customers around the globe, so it is crucial to our operations that our team members know how to conduct themselves in a global environment. This is why we love participating in the OEIP, giving us the chance to train up-and-coming exporters right from the start.
Our student interns are involved in all aspects of our operations. From the front lines of interacting with clients to the day-to-day behind-the-scenes aspects of running the business, we make sure that our interns are exposed to as many different tasks as possible so that they receive a well-rounded education in the exports industry.
We are so proud to have contributed to the success of the program thus far and plan to continue to work with OEIP interns in the future. We are about midway into our current summer internships and expect them to be just as successful as in years past.
